Al-Alaq

Read, in the name of your Guardian who created,

ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ

who created the human being from a clinging form.

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ

Read! And your Guardian is the Most Generous, who taught by the pen, taught the human being what he did not know.

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ

By no means! The human being surely exceeds all measure, as soon as he sees himself self-sufficient.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ أَن رَّأَهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ

To your Guardian is the return.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ

Have you seen the one who forbids an obedient one when he makes contact?

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ

Have you seen if he is upon guidance, or enjoins guardedness?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ

Have you seen if he denies and turns his back? Does he not know that God sees?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

By no means! If he does not desist, We will seize him roughly by the forelock, a lying forelock, at fault!

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ نَاصِيَةٍۢ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۢ

Then let him call his assembly; We will call the Zabaniya.

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ

By no means! Do not defer to him, but prostrate and draw near.

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب
