The rare verb defined by the clause that follows it
Hypothesis examined: when a rare verb is followed, without "and", by a clause detailing its content, that clause defines it; the translation links them with a colon.
The starting case is 79:30-31: « وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا », "And the earth, after that, He made it hatch forth: He brought forth from it its water and its pasture". The verb دَحَىٰ is rare; the next clause, without وَ, says what it consists of. The translation links them with a colon.
But no other rare verb followed by an explanatory clause is found in the Qur'an. One case, however sound, does not make a rule. The mechanism is close to that of “"And what will make you know what … is?": the question that announces a definition” (a question followed by its definition), but it is demonstrated only once.
