The Prostration
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
Alif. Lam. Mim.
الم
The descent of the Scripture — no doubt possible — is from the Guardian of all beings.
تنزيل الكتب لا ريب فيه من رب العلمين
Or will they say: "He has invented it"?
ام يقولون افترىه
It is rather the truth from your Guardian, that you may warn a people to whom no warner had come before you, in the hope that they will let themselves be guided.
بل هو الحق من ربك لتنذر قوما ما اتىهم من نذير من قبلك لعلهم يهتدون
God is He who created the heavens and the earth, and what is between them, in six days, then established Himself upon the Edifice;
الله الذي خلق السموت والارض وما بينهما في ستة ايام ثم استوى على العرش
you have, besides Him, neither protector nor intercessor.
ما لكم من دونه من ولي ولا شفيع
Will you not then remember?
افلا تتذكرون
He governs the Order from the sky to the earth, then it ascends to Him in a day whose measure is a thousand years of those you number.
يدبر الامر من السماء الى الارض ثم يعرج اليه في يوم كان مقداره الف سنة مما تعدون
That is the Knower of what escapes the senses and of what is witnessed, the All-Powerful, the Benevolent,
ذلك علم الغيب والشهدة العزيز الرحيم
who made excellent everything He created, and began the creation of the human being from clay,
الذي احسن كل شىء خلقه وبدا خلق الانسن من طين
then made his progeny from an extract of a despised water,
ثم جعل نسله من سللة من ماء مهين
then proportioned him, and breathed into him of His Influx,
ثم سوىه ونفخ فيه من روحه
and He appointed for you hearing, sight, and Consciences —
وجعل لكم السمع والابصر والافدة
how little you are grateful!
قليلا ما تشكرون
And they said, "When we have strayed in the earth, will we truly be in a new creation?"
وقالوا اءذا ضللنا في الارض اءنا لفي خلق جديد
They rather disown the meeting with their Guardian.
بل هم بلقاء ربهم كفرون
Say, "The Agent of death, who has been entrusted with you, will keep you faithfully; then to your Guardian you will be returned."
قل يتوفىكم ملك الموت الذي وكل بكم ثم الى ربكم ترجعون
And if you could see when the severed are heads bowed before their Guardian: "Our Guardian, we have seen clearly and heard, so return us; we will do sound deeds — we are now indeed certain."
ولو ترى اذ المجرمون ناكسوا رءوسهم عند ربهم ربنا ابصرنا وسمعنا فارجعنا نعمل صلحا انا موقنون
And had We willed, We would have given every Self its guidance;
ولو شينا لءاتينا كل نفس هدىها
but My saying has proven true: "I will surely fill Jahannam with the Occulted and mankind, all together."
ولكن حق القول مني لاملان جهنم من الجنة والناس اجمعين
So taste, for having forgotten the meeting of this Day of yours — We have indeed forgotten you —
فذوقوا بما نسيتم لقاء يومكم هذا انا نسينكم
and taste the punishment of eternity for what you used to do.
وذوقوا عذاب الخلد بما كنتم تعملون
Only those believe in Our signs who, when they are reminded of them, fall down in prostration and glorify their Guardian with praise, and do not grow proud.
انما يومن بايتنا الذين اذا ذكروا بها خروا سجدا وسبحوا بحمد ربهم وهم لا يستكبرون
Their sides draw away from their beds, calling upon their Guardian in fear and hope, and they spend out of what We have provided them.
تتجافى جنوبهم عن المضاجع يدعون ربهم خوفا وطمعا ومما رزقنهم ينفقون
And no Self knows what has been hidden for it of a rest of the gaze, as recompense for what they used to do.
فلا تعلم نفس ما اخفي لهم من قرة اعين جزاء بما كانوا يعملون
Is he who is a believer like him who is an overstepper?
افمن كان مومنا كمن كان فاسقا
They are not equal.
لا يستون
As for those who believed and did sound deeds, they have the gardens of refuge, as a welcome, for what they used to do;
اما الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت فلهم جنت الماوى نزلا بما كانوا يعملون
and as for those who overstepped the limits, their refuge is the Fire:
واما الذين فسقوا فماوىهم النار
every time they wish to come out of it, they will be returned to it, and it will be said to them, "Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny."
كلما ارادوا ان يخرجوا منها اعيدوا فيها وقيل لهم ذوقوا عذاب النار الذي كنتم به تكذبون
And We will surely make them taste of the nearer punishment, short of the greater punishment, perhaps they will return.
ولنذيقنهم من العذاب الادنى دون العذاب الاكبر لعلهم يرجعون
And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the signs of his Guardian, and then turns away from them?
ومن اظلم ممن ذكر بايت ربه ثم اعرض عنها
We will indeed take vengeance upon the severed.
انا من المجرمين منتقمون
And We certainly gave Moussa the Scripture —
ولقد ءاتينا موسى الكتب
so do not be in contention about his meeting —
فلا تكن في مرية من لقايه
and We made it a guidance for the Sons of Israel.
وجعلنه هدى لبني اسرءيل
And We appointed among them leaders guiding by Our command, when they had been patient,
وجعلنا منهم ايمة يهدون بامرنا لما صبروا
and had certainty in Our signs.
وكانوا بايتنا يوقنون
Your Guardian is He who will separate between them, on the Day of Appearance, concerning that in which they differed.
ان ربك هو يفصل بينهم يوم القيمة فيما كانوا فيه يختلفون
Are they not guided by how many generations We annihilated before them, in whose dwellings they walk?
اولم يهد لهم كم اهلكنا من قبلهم من القرون يمشون في مسكنهم
There are surely in that signs.
ان في ذلك لءايت
Do they not then hear?
افلا يسمعون
Have they not seen that We drive the water to the arid land, and thereby bring forth crops from which their cattle and they themselves eat?
اولم يروا انا نسوق الماء الى الارض الجرز فنخرج به زرعا تاكل منه انعمهم وانفسهم
Do they not then see clearly?
افلا يبصرون
And they say, "When is this opening, if you are veracious?"
ويقولون متى هذا الفتح ان كنتم صدقين
Say, "On the day of the opening, faith will no longer benefit those who disowned, nor will they be given respite."
قل يوم الفتح لا ينفع الذين كفروا ايمنهم ولا هم ينظرون
So turn away from them, and wait:
فاعرض عنهم وانتظر
they are indeed waiting.
انهم منتظرون
