جوو
Attested forms : جَوِّ 1
Core meaning
The open space between the earth and the sky, where nothing bears what stays in it.
Uses
جَوّ → "the space" : the place where birds fly, without visible support.
- «مُسَخَّرَٰتٍۢ فِى جَوِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ» — "subjected in the space of the sky" (16:79)
Evidence from the text
The word is used only once, and the verse says what characterizes it: the birds stay in it, "held by nothing but God" (16:79). The space of the sky is that void where the birds' holding becomes a sign "for a people who believe" (16:79).
