دلك

Sealed dlk 1 occurrences

1 occurrences · 1 suras · first occurrence 17:78

Attested forms : لِدُلُوكِ 1

Core meaning

The decline: the sun tilting and leaving the full of the day, marking the passage from one time to another.

Uses

  1. دُلُوك ٱلشَّمْس → "the sun's decline" : the moment the sun tips over, first marker of the times of the Contact.

    • «أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِدُلُوكِ ٱلشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ ٱلَّيْلِ» — "Maintain the Contact from the sun's decline until the darkness of night" (17:78)

Evidence from the text

The sole use opens an interval bounded by two markers: the sun's decline on one side, the darkness of night on the other, the Recitation of dawn being named apart (17:78). The word thus names a tipping point in the sun's course, between the still full day and nightfall.

Distinctions

  • غسق — the darkness of night: the other bound of the interval
