غرو
Attested forms : أَغْرَيْنَا 1 · لَنُغْرِيَنَّكَ 1
Core meaning
To set one against another: to unleash a hostility that clings to those it targets and no longer leaves them.
Uses
فَأَغْرَيْنَا, لَنُغْرِيَنَّكَ → "to unleash among", "to unleash against" : always God, in answer to a failing: He fastens hostility upon a group, or unleashes His messenger against those who do not cease.
Evidence from the text
Both uses are answers. In 5:14, hostility is unleashed after those who took the solemn engagement "forgot a share of what they had been reminded of"; it lasts "until the Day of Appearance". In 33:60, the threat follows a condition: if the hypocrites and the rumor-mongers "do not cease". The word therefore does not describe a discord that already existed: it says what is unleashed, and clings.
