فقع
Attested forms : اقِعٌۭ 1
Core meaning
The brightness of a pure colour: a vivid hue, unmixed.
Uses
فَاقِعٌ → "vivid" : qualifies the colour already named and brings it to its brightness.
- «إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌۭ صَفْرَآءُ فَاقِعٌۭ لَّوْنُهَا» — "she is a yellow cow, of a vivid yellow" (2:69)
Evidence from the text
The root has a single use, in the series of details demanded about the cow: her age (2:68), then her colour (2:69). The answer does not only say "yellow": it names the brightness of that yellow, and its effect, a colour "which delights the eyes" (2:69).
Distinctions
- صفر — yellow: the colour, which فقع brings to its brightness
