قنى
Attested forms : أَقْنَىٰ 1
Core meaning
To make one acquire a good that remains: to grant lasting possession, following enrichment.
Uses
أَقْنَىٰ → "to grant lasting possession" : the second moment of the pair: enrichment fixed as holding.
- «وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ» — "and that it is He who enriched and granted lasting possession" (53:48)
Evidence from the text
The word appears only once, paired with أَغْنَىٰ, to enrich (53:48), in a series of pairs that say what God does: to make laugh and weep, to make die and give life (53:43-44). The first verb gives wealth, the second makes of it a good one keeps: the pair runs from acquisition to possession.
Distinctions
- غنى — to enrich: the first term of the pair, the wealth given
