Forme attestate : ٱلْوَتِينَ 1
Core meaning
The main artery that carries life: to sever it is to cut life off at its source.
Uses
ٱلْوَتِين → "the aorta" : the vital artery, named in the hypothesis of a messenger who would forge a saying.
- «ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ» — "then cut his aorta" (69:46)
Evidence from the text
The single use (69:46) completes an unreal condition: had the messenger forged a saying upon God, he would have been seized by the right hand, then his aorta would have been severed. The text names the artery whose severing leaves no survival; the next verse adds that none could have shielded him. The sanction set out is total, and the hypothesis closes upon itself.
