Al-Mu'minun
Have Attained Success
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
The believers have attained success,
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
those who, in their Contact, are humble,
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى صَلَاتِهِمْ خَٰشِعُونَ
and those who turn away from idle talk,
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ ٱللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ
and those who give pure liberality,
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَٰعِلُونَ
and those who preserve their private parts, except with their spouses or those bound by oath — for then they are not censurable;
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَٰفِظُونَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
but whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the ones who cross the limits.
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
and those who are watchful over their trusts and their pact,
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
and those who carefully preserve their Contacts — those are the inheritors, who will inherit the Firdaws,
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ
abiding therein eternally.
هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ
We created the human being from an extract of clay,
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن سُلَٰلَةٍۢ مِّن طِينٍۢ
then We made him a drop in a secure and stable place,
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَٰهُ نُطْفَةًۭ فِى قَرَارٍۢ مَّكِينٍۢ
then We created from the drop a clinging form, then We created from the clinging form a lump, then We created from the lump bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought it into being as another creation.
ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا ٱلنُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةًۭ فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْمُضْغَةَ عِظَٰمًۭا فَكَسَوْنَا ٱلْعِظَٰمَ لَحْمًۭا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَٰهُ خَلْقًا ءَاخَرَ
Blessed is God, the best of creators!
فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ ٱلْخَٰلِقِينَ
Then, after that, you are surely destined to die,
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ
then, on the Day of Appearance, you will indeed be raised.
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ
We created above you seven roads,
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعَ طَرَآئِقَ
and We have never been heedless of creation.
وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلْخَلْقِ غَٰفِلِينَ
And We sent down from the sky water in due measure, and We made it dwell in the earth —
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍۢ فَأَسْكَنَّٰهُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ
and We are surely able to make it disappear.
وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍۭ بِهِۦ لَقَٰدِرُونَ
We thus brought into being for you, through it, gardens of palms and vines, wherein you have abundant savoury fruits and from which you eat, and a tree that comes out of Mount Sinai, which grows with oil and a condiment for those who eat.
فَأَنشَأْنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍۢ مِّن نَّخِيلٍۢ وَأَعْنَٰبٍۢ لَّكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَٰكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌۭ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ وَشَجَرَةًۭ تَخْرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيْنَآءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍۢ لِّلْءَاكِلِينَ
And there is surely, for you, a lesson in the cattle:
وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ لَعِبْرَةًۭ
We give you drink from what is in their bellies,
نُّسْقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِى بُطُونِهَا
and you have in them many benefits, and you eat from them, and upon them as well as upon vessels you are carried.
وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ كَثِيرَةٌۭ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ
We indeed sent Nuh to his people, and he said: "O my people! Obey God: you have no other deity than Him.
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ
Will you not then guard yourselves?"
أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
The court of his people, those who disowned, then said: "This is nothing but a human like you, who wants to gain superiority over you; had God willed, He would have sent down Agents; we have not heard this among our first ancestors. He is nothing but a man afflicted with derangement — so bide your time concerning him, for a time."
فَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَٰٓئِكَةًۭ مَّا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِىٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۭ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍۢ
He said: "My Guardian, help me, for they have denied me."
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ
We then revealed to him: "Craft the vessel under Our eyes and by Our revelation.
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ ٱصْنَعِ ٱلْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا
Then, when Our command comes and the oven boils over, insert into it, of every kind, two elements of a pair, along with your family, except him among them against whom the saying has already preceded;
فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ فَٱسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِن كُلٍّۢ زَوْجَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ
and do not address Me about those who have done wrong: they will indeed be drowned.
وَلَا تُخَٰطِبْنِى فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ
And when you have established yourself, you and those with you, in the vessel, say: 'Praise be to God who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'
فَإِذَا ٱسْتَوَيْتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
And say: 'My Guardian, cause me to land at a blessed place of welcome, for You are the best of hosts.'"
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًۭا مُّبَارَكًۭا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ
There are surely in that signs,
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ
and We were indeed testing.
وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ
Then We brought into being, after them, another generation, and We sent among them a messenger from among them: "Obey God: you have no other deity than Him.
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا ءَاخَرِينَ فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًۭا مِّنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ
Will you not then guard yourselves?"
أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
And the court of his people, those who disowned and denied the meeting of the last life, and to whom We had given affluence in the present life, said: "This is nothing but a human like you, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink; and if you defer to a human like you, you will then indeed be losers. Does he promise you that, once dead and become earth and bones, you will be brought out? Far, far indeed is what you are promised! There is nothing but our present life, we die and we live, and we will not be raised up! He is nothing but a man who has invented a lie against God, and we will not give him credit."
وَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَآءِ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًۭا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًۭا لَّخَٰسِرُونَ أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنتُمْ تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخْرَجُونَ هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًۭا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
He said: "My Guardian, help me, for they have denied me."
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ
He said: "A little while yet, and they will surely find themselves full of regret."
قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍۢ لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ نَٰدِمِينَ
The Cry then seized them in truth, and We made them into wisps of straw.
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ غُثَآءًۭ
Far removed then be the wrongdoing people!
فَبُعْدًۭا لِّلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
Then We brought into being, after them, other generations.
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِينَ
No community precedes its term, nor does it delay it.
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ
Then We sent Our messengers, one after another.
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا
Every time a messenger came to a community, it denied him;
كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةًۭ رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ
We thus made them follow one another, and We made them into topics of discourse.
فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًۭا وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ
Far removed then be a people that does not believe!
فَبُعْدًۭا لِّقَوْمٍۢ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Then We sent Moussa and his brother Harun, with Our signs and a manifest authority, to Fir'awn and his court; but they grew proud and were a haughty people,
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَٰرُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَٰنٍۢ مُّبِينٍ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا عَالِينَ
and they said: "Shall we give credit to two humans like ourselves, while their people obey us?"
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَٰبِدُونَ
They denied them, and were thus among those annihilated.
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ
We certainly gave Moussa the Scripture, perhaps they would let themselves be guided.
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ
And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign,
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥٓ ءَايَةًۭ
and We granted them refuge on a height endowed with stability and spring water.
وَءَاوَيْنَٰهُمَآ إِلَىٰ رَبْوَةٍۢ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍۢ وَمَعِينٍۢ
O messengers, eat of the wholesome things and do sound deeds —
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ صَٰلِحًا
I am All-Knowing of what you do.
إِنِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌۭ
And this community of yours is indeed a single community,
وَإِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ
and I am your Guardian: so guard yourselves toward Me.
وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُونِ
But they split their affair among themselves into pieces,
فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ زُبُرًۭا
each party rejoicing in what it holds.
كُلُّ حِزْبٍۭ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ
So forsake them in their gulf, for a time.
فَذَرْهُمْ فِى غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
Do they think that, in granting them goods and sons, We speed toward them with the good?
أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالٍۢ وَبَنِينَ نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ
No, they do not sense it.
بَل لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ
Those who, dreading their Guardian, are apprehensive, and those who believe in the signs of their Guardian, and those who associate nothing with their Guardian, and those who give what they give, their core trembling because they are returning to their Guardian — those speed toward the good,
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا يُشْرِكُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَآ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَٰجِعُونَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ
and it is they who race ahead to it.
وَهُمْ لَهَا سَٰبِقُونَ
And We impose upon no Self except its capacity,
وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
and We have a record that utters the truth, and they will not be wronged.
وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَٰبٌۭ يَنطِقُ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
But their core is in a gulf about this,
بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍۢ مِّنْ هَٰذَا
and they have, apart from that, works
وَلَهُمْ أَعْمَٰلٌۭ مِّن دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ
which they will continue to commit —
هُمْ لَهَا عَٰمِلُونَ
until, when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, there they are, crying out in distress.
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِم بِٱلْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْـَٔرُونَ
Do not cry out today,
لَا تَجْـَٔرُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ
you will indeed not be helped by Us.
إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ
My signs were indeed recited to you, and you stepped back on your heels, growing too proud for them,
قَدْ كَانَتْ ءَايَٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَٰبِكُمْ تَنكِصُونَ مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِۦ
conversing by night, you spoke outrageously.
سَٰمِرًۭا تَهْجُرُونَ
Have they then not pondered the saying, or has there come to them what did not come to their first ancestors?
أَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلْقَوْلَ أَمْ جَآءَهُم مَّا لَمْ يَأْتِ ءَابَآءَهُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
Or did they not recognize their messenger, to the point that they disavow him?
أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ
Or do they say that he is afflicted with derangement?
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۢ
No, he has come to them with the truth,
بَلْ جَآءَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ
but most of them are averse to the truth.
وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَٰرِهُونَ
And had the truth followed their emotions, the heavens, the earth, and those therein would have been corrupted.
وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْحَقُّ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ
No, We have come to them with their own Reminder,
بَلْ أَتَيْنَٰهُم بِذِكْرِهِمْ
but they turn away from their Reminder.
فَهُمْ عَن ذِكْرِهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ
Or do you ask them for a tribute?
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ خَرْجًۭا
The tribute of your Guardian is better,
فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌۭ
and He is the best of providers.
وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ
And you surely call them toward a straight path;
وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ
but those who do not believe in the last life surely deviate from that path.
وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ لَنَٰكِبُونَ
And if We had benevolence on them and removed from them the harm that was upon them, they would be mired in their immoderation, going about blindly.
وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَٰهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرٍّۢ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
We did indeed seize them with punishment, yet they did not bend before their Guardian, nor did they beseech,
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
until, when We open upon them a gate of severe punishment, there they are, in despair.
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًۭا ذَا عَذَابٍۢ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ
And He is the One who brought into being for you hearing, sight, and Consciences.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ
How little you are grateful!
قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ
And He is the One who has scattered you upon the earth, and it is to Him that you will be gathered.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ
And He is the One who gives life and gives death,
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ
and to Him belongs the alternation of night and day.
وَلَهُ ٱخْتِلَٰفُ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ
Will you not then reason?
أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
But they said the same thing that the ancients used to say; they said: "When we are dead and have become earth and bones, shall we really be raised?
بَلْ قَالُوا۟ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ قَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
We have indeed been promised this, we and our ancestors, before;
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا هَٰذَا مِن قَبْلُ
these are nothing but legends of the ancients."
إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
Say: "To whom belongs the earth and those in it, if you know?" They will say: "To God."
قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ
Say: "Will you not then remember?"
قُلْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Say: "Who is the Guardian of the seven heavens and the Guardian of the immense Edifice?"
قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ ٱلسَّبْعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
They will say: "To God."
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ
Say: "Will you not then guard yourselves?"
قُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Say: "Who holds in His hand the sovereign dominion of everything, who grants asylum, and against whom none can obtain asylum, if you know?" They will say: "To God."
قُلْ مَنۢ بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ
Say: "How then are you abused by illusion?"
قُلْ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسْحَرُونَ
No, We have come to them with the truth,
بَلْ أَتَيْنَٰهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ
and they are surely liars.
وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
God has taken no child,
مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدٍۢ
and there was with Him no deity —
وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ
otherwise, each deity would have gone off with what it created, and some would have risen above others.
إِذًۭا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَٰهٍۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ
Glory be to God, above what they describe!
سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
The Knower of what escapes the senses and of what is witnessed,
عَٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ
He is far above what they associate with Him.
فَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
Say: "My Guardian, if You show me what they are promised, then, my Guardian, do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّى مَا يُوعَدُونَ رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِى فِى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
And We are surely able to show you what We promise them.
وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَٰدِرُونَ
Repel evil with what is better —
ٱدْفَعْ بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ
We know best what they describe.
نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ
And say: "My Guardian, I take refuge with You from the incitements of the Diverters, and I take refuge with You, my Guardian, against their being present with me."
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ
Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: "My Guardian, make me return, perhaps I will do a sound deed in that which I left." By no means!
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرْجِعُونِ لَعَلِّىٓ أَعْمَلُ صَٰلِحًۭا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ كَلَّآ
It is indeed a word that he says,
إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَآئِلُهَا
and behind them there is a barrier, until the day they are raised.
وَمِن وَرَآئِهِم بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
Then, when the Horn is blown, there will be no ties of lineage between them that day, and they will not question one another.
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَلَآ أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ وَلَا يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
Those whose balances are heavy — those are the ones who succeed;
فَمَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
And those whose balances are light — those are the ones who have caused the loss of their Selves, abiding eternally in Jahannam; the Fire will scorch their faces, and they will grimace therein, lips drawn back.
وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فِى جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدُونَ تَلْفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَٰلِحُونَ
Were My signs not recited to you, and you denied them?
أَلَمْ تَكُنْ ءَايَٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ
They will say: "Our Guardian, our misery overcame us, and we were an astray people.
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْمًۭا ضَآلِّينَ
Our Guardian, bring us out of it; if we relapse, we will then indeed be wrongdoers."
رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَٰلِمُونَ
He will say: "Remain therein, rebuffed, and do not speak to Me."
قَالَ ٱخْسَـُٔوا۟ فِيهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ
There was a fraction among My obedient ones who said: "Our Guardian, we believe; forgive us and have benevolence on us, for You are the best of those who show benevolence" — but you made them the object of your scoffing, until they made you forget My Reminder, and you used to laugh at them.
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِيقٌۭ مِّنْ عِبَادِى يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا حَتَّىٰٓ أَنسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِى وَكُنتُم مِّنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ
I have indeed this day recompensed them for their patience: it is they who are the triumphant.
إِنِّى جَزَيْتُهُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ
He will say: "How many years did you remain on the earth?"
قَٰلَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ
They will say: "We remained a day,
قَالُوا۟ لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا
or part of a day; so ask those who number."
أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍۢ فَسْـَٔلِ ٱلْعَآدِّينَ
He will say: "You remained only a little, if only you knew."
قَٰلَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا لَّوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
Did you then think that We created you in vain, and that you would not be returned to Us?
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ عَبَثًۭا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ
So exalted be God, the Sovereign, the Truth!
فَتَعَٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ
There is no deity but Him,
لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ
the Guardian of the noble Edifice.
رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْكَرِيمِ
And whoever invokes, with God, another deity, having no demonstration of it, his account rests only with his Guardian.
وَمَن يَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرْهَٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦٓ
Those who disown do not attain success.
إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ
And say: "My Guardian, forgive and have benevolence, for You are the best of those who show benevolence."
وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ وَٱرْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
