Adh-Dhariyat

By those that winnow, winnowing, those that bear a heavy weight, those that glide with ease, those that distribute a command: what you are promised is indeed true, and the Due will surely befall.

وَٱلذَّٰرِيَٰتِ ذَرْوًۭا فَٱلْحَٰمِلَٰتِ وِقْرًۭا فَٱلْجَٰرِيَٰتِ يُسْرًۭا فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَٰتِ أَمْرًا إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٌۭ وَإِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ لَوَٰقِعٌۭ

By the sky of interwoven paths! You are surely in a differing saying: turned away from it is whoever is turned away.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْحُبُكِ إِنَّكُمْ لَفِى قَوْلٍۢ مُّخْتَلِفٍۢ يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ

May the guessers perish, those who are plunged in a gulf, absent-minded!

قُتِلَ ٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍۢ سَاهُونَ

They ask: "When will the Day of the Due be?" — the day they will be tried over the Fire.

يَسْـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ

This is what you used to seek to hasten."

هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

They were, before that, among those who do good.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ

of the night to slumber,

مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ

and, in the last hours of the night, they would implore forgiveness.

وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

And in their goods there was a right for the one who asks and the one who is deprived.

وَفِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّۭ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ

And on the earth there are signs for those who have certainty,

وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ءَايَٰتٌۭ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ

Will you not then see clearly?

أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

And in the sky is your provision,

وَفِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ

as well as what you are promised. By the Guardian of the sky and the earth, it is surely the truth, just as it is true that you utter.

وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقٌّۭ مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ

People I do not recognize."

قَوْمٌۭ مُّنكَرُونَ

He stole away to his household, then brought a fat calf and brought it near them, saying: "Do you not eat?"

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجْلٍۢ سَمِينٍۢ فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ

And they gave him good news of a knowledgeable boy.

وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍۢ

Then his wife came forward crying out, struck her face, and said: "An old, barren woman?!"

فَأَقْبَلَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ فِى صَرَّةٍۢ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌۭ

He said: "What then is your case, O envoys?"

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

They said: "We have been sent to a severed people, to send upon them stones of clay, marked with your Guardian for the excessive."

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۢ مُّجْرِمِينَ لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن طِينٍۢ مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ

We brought out from it those who believed, but We found in it only one house of those true to God alone; and We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.

فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ

And in Moussa: when We sent him to Fir'awn with manifest authority, he turned his back with his support, and said: "A worker of illusion, or a deranged one."

وَفِى مُوسَىٰٓ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَٰنٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَٰحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌۭ

So We seized him and his armies, and cast them into the deep, while he was censurable.

فَأَخَذْنَٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذْنَٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌۭ

And in the Aad: when We sent upon them the barren wind, which spared nothing it passed over without reducing it to dust.

وَفِى عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلْعَقِيمَ مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَىْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ

And in the Thamud: when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time," but they insolently defied the command of their Guardian, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.

وَفِى ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍۢ فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

They could neither rise up nor find help.

فَمَا ٱسْتَطَٰعُوا۟ مِن قِيَامٍۢ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِينَ

they were a people of oversteppers.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًۭا فَٰسِقِينَ

and We are surely the ones who expand.

وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ

what excellent arrangers!

فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَٰهِدُونَ

And of every thing, We created a pair, perhaps you will remember.

وَمِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

So flee to God: I am indeed to you, from Him, a clear warner.

فَفِرُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ

And do not place, alongside God, another deity: I am indeed to you, from Him, a clear warner.

وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ

no messenger came to those before them without their saying: "A worker of illusion, or a deranged one."

مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ

They are rather a people who exceed all measure.

بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌۭ طَاغُونَ

for the reminder benefits the believers.

فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

I created the Occulted and humans only so that they obey Me.

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

I do not want any provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me.

مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍۢ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ

God is the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Unshakeable.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ

Those who did wrong will indeed have a share like the share of their companions: so let them not ask Me to hasten it.

فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًۭا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ

So woe to those who disown, because of their day which is promised to them.

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن يَوْمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
