Al-Hijr

These are the signs of the Scripture, and of a clear Recitation.

ٮلك اٮٮ الكٮٮ وڡراں مٮٮں

Many a time, those who disown would like to have been true to God alone.

رٮما ٮود الدٮں كڡروا لو كاٮوا مسلمٮں

they will soon know.

ڡسوڡ ٮعلموں

We have not annihilated any city without it having had, concerning it, a known register.

وما اهلكٮا مں ڡرٮه الا ولها كٮاٮ معلوم

No community precedes its term, nor delays it.

ما ٮسٮٯ مں امه احلها وما ٮسٮحروں

And they said: "O you upon whom the Reminder has been sent down, you are surely deranged! Why do you not bring us the Agents, if you are among the veracious?"

وڡالوا ٮاٮها الدى ٮرل علٮه الدكر اٮك لمحٮوں لو ما ٮاٮٮٮا ٮالملٮكه اں كٮٮ مں الصدڡٮں

and then, they would be granted no reprieve.

وما كاٮوا ادا مٮطرٮں

and We are surely its preservers.

واٮا له لحڡطوں

We have indeed sent messengers before you, among the factions of the ancients,

ولڡد ارسلٮا مں ڡٮلك ڡى سٮع الاولٮں

and no messenger ever came to them but they mocked him.

وما ٮاٮٮهم مں رسول الا كاٮوا ٮه ٮسٮهروں

Thus We insert it into the cores of the severed: they do not believe in it, though the norm of the ancients has already passed.

كدلك ٮسلكه ڡى ڡلوٮ المحرمٮں لا ٮومٮوں ٮه وڡد حلٮ سٮه الاولٮں

And even if We opened for them a gate of the sky, through which they would stay ascending, they would say: "Our sight is only befuddled; we are rather a people abused by illusion."

ولو ڡٮحٮا علٮهم ٮاٮا مں السما ڡطلوا ڡٮه ٮعرحوں لڡالوا اٮما سكرٮ اٮصرٮا ٮل ٮحں ڡوم مسحوروں

We have indeed placed in the sky constellations, and adorned them for those who look, and preserved them from every banished Diverter — except one who steals a furtive hearing, and is then pursued by a manifest blazing projectile.

ولڡد حعلٮا ڡى السما ٮروحا ورٮٮها للٮطرٮں وحڡطٮها مں كل سٮطں رحٮم الا مں اسٮرٯ السمع ڡاٮٮعه سهاٮ مٮٮں

as well as for those whose providers you are not.

ومں لسٮم له ٮررڡٮں

and We send it down only according to a known measure.

وما ٮٮرله الا ٮڡدر معلوم

And We sent the fecundating winds, and then sent down from the sky a water with which We gave you drink, and which you do not hold in reserve.

وارسلٮا الرٮح لوڡح ڡاٮرلٮا مں السما ما ڡاسڡٮٮكموه وما اٮٮم له ٮحرٮٮں

And it is surely We who give life and cause death, and it is We who are the heirs.

واٮا لٮحں ٮحى وٮمٮٮ وٮحں الورٮوں

We indeed know those among you who go first, and We indeed know those who lag behind.

ولڡد علمٮا المسٮڡدمٮں مٮكم ولڡد علمٮا المسٮحرٮں

He is Wise, All-Knowing.

اٮه حكٮم علٮم

We have indeed created the human being from resonant clay, from molded mud,

ولڡد حلڡٮا الاٮسں مں صلصل مں حما مسٮوں

and the Occulted, We had created them before, from a fire of torrid wind.

والحاں حلڡٮه مں ڡٮل مں ٮار السموم

And when your Guardian said to the Agents: "I am indeed going to create a human from resonant clay, from molded mud; when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My Influx, bow before him in prostration."

واد ڡال رٮك للملٮكه اٮى حلٯ ٮسرا مں صلصل مں حما مسٮوں ڡادا سوٮٮه وٮڡحٮ ڡٮه مں روحى ڡڡعوا له سحدٮں

The Agents then prostrated, all together, except Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated.

ڡسحد الملٮكه كلهم احمعوں الا اٮلٮس اٮى اں ٮكوں مع السحدٮں

He said: "O Iblis, what is with you, that you are not among those who prostrate?"

ڡال ٮاٮلٮس ما لك الا ٮكوں مع السحدٮں

He said: "It is not for me to prostrate before a human You created from resonant clay, from molded mud."

ڡال لم اكں لاسحد لٮسر حلڡٮه مں صلصل مں حما مسٮوں

He said: "So get out of here, for you are now banished, and the curse will indeed weigh upon you until the Day of the Due."

ڡال ڡاحرح مٮها ڡاٮك رحٮم واں علٮك اللعٮه الى ٮوم الدٮں

He said: "My Guardian, grant me then a delay until the day they are raised."

ڡال رٮ ڡاٮطرٮى الى ٮوم ٮٮعٮوں

He said: "You are among those granted a delay, until the day of the known moment."

ڡال ڡاٮك مں المٮطرٮں الى ٮوم الوڡٮ المعلوم

He said: "My Guardian, for having let me err, I shall surely embellish for them what is on earth, and I shall surely make them all err, except Your obedient ones among them who are refined."

ڡال رٮ ٮما اعوٮٮٮى لارٮٮں لهم ڡى الارص ولاعوٮٮهم احمعٮں الا عٮادك مٮهم المحلصٮں

He said: "This is a path incumbent upon Me, a straight path.

ڡال هدا صرط على مسٮڡٮم

Over My obedient ones, you indeed have no authority, except over whoever follows you among the errant."

اں عٮادى لٮس لك علٮهم سلطں الا مں اٮٮعك مں العاوٮں

to each gate belongs a determined part of them.

لكل ٮاٮ مٮهم حر مڡسوم

Those who guarded themselves will indeed be in gardens and springs: "Enter therein in peace, in security."

اں المٮڡٮں ڡى حٮٮ وعٮوں ادحلوها ٮسلم امٮٮں

brothers, upon couches, facing one another.

احوٮا على سرر مٮڡٮلٮں

and they will never be expelled from it.

وما هم مٮها ٮمحرحٮں

Inform My obedient ones that it is I, the Most-Forgiving, the Benevolent, and that My punishment is the painful punishment.

ٮٮى عٮادى اٮى اٮا العڡور الرحٮم واں عداٮى هو العداٮ الالٮم

He said: "We are indeed trembling because of you."

ڡال اٮا مٮكم وحلوں

They said: "Do not tremble: we bring you glad tidings of a knowledgeable boy."

ڡالوا لا ٮوحل اٮا ٮٮسرك ٮعلم علٮم

He said: "Do you give me this glad tiding, when old age has touched me? Of what then do you give me tidings?"

ڡال اٮسرٮموٮى على اں مسٮى الكٮر ڡٮم ٮٮسروں

They said: "We bring you this glad tiding in truth: so do not be among those who lose heart."

ڡالوا ٮسرٮك ٮالحٯ ڡلا ٮكں مں الڡٮطٮں

He said: "And who loses heart regarding his Guardian's benevolence, except the astray?"

ڡال ومں ٮڡٮط مں رحمه رٮه الا الصالوں

He said: "What then is your case, O envoys?"

ڡال ڡما حطٮكم اٮها المرسلوں

They said: "We are sent to a severed people, except the clan of Lut.

ڡالوا اٮا ارسلٮا الى ڡوم محرمٮں الا ال لوط

We shall surely save them all, except his wife: We have determined that she is indeed among those who linger behind."

اٮا لمٮحوهم احمعٮں الا امراٮه ڡدرٮا اٮها لمں العٮرٮں

And when the envoys came to the clan of Lut, he said: "You are people I do not recognize."

ڡلما حا ال لوط المرسلوں ڡال اٮكم ڡوم مٮكروں

They said: "We bring you rather that about which they used to contend. We have come to you with the truth, and we are surely veracious.

ڡالوا ٮل حٮٮك ٮما كاٮوا ڡٮه ٮمٮروں واٮٮٮك ٮالحٯ واٮا لصدڡوں

So depart with your family, at a time of the night, and follow behind them, and let none of you turn around, and go where you are commanded."

ڡاسر ٮاهلك ٮڡطع مں الٮل واٮٮع ادٮرهم ولا ٮلٮڡٮ مٮكم احد وامصوا حٮٮ ٮومروں

And We decreed to him this command: the last remnant of those people would be cut off, by morning.

وڡصٮٮا الٮه دلك الامر اں داٮر هولا مڡطوع مصٮحٮں

And the people of the Capital came, exulting.

وحا اهل المدٮٮه ٮسٮٮسروں

He said: "These are my guests: do not dishonor me,

ڡال اں هولا صٮڡى ڡلا ٮڡصحوں

and guard yourselves toward God, and do not disgrace me."

واٮڡوا الله ولا ٮحروں

They said: "Did we not forbid you anyone at all?"

ڡالوا اولم ٮٮهك عں العلمٮں

He said: "Here are my daughters, if you must act."

ڡال هولا ٮٮاٮى اں كٮٮم ڡعلٮں

By your life, they were surely going about blindly in their intoxication.

لعمرك اٮهم لڡى سكرٮهم ٮعمهوں

The Cry then seized them at daybreak, and We made its top its bottom, and rained upon them stones of formed clay.

ڡاحدٮهم الصٮحه مسرڡٮں ڡحعلٮا علٮها ساڡلها وامطرٮا علٮهم ححاره مں سحٮل

There are surely in that signs for those who can read the marks.

اں ڡى دلك لاٮٮ للمٮوسمٮں

And it is surely upon a way that endures.

واٮها لٮسٮٮل مڡٮم

There is surely in that a sign for the believers.

اں ڡى دلك لاٮه للمومٮٮں

And the companions of the Thicket were indeed wrongdoers,

واں كاں اصحٮ الاٮكه لطلمٮں

and both are surely upon a manifest reference.

واٮهما لٮامام مٮٮں

The companions of al-Hijr indeed denied the envoys,

ولڡد كدٮ اصحٮ الححر المرسلٮں

and We gave them Our signs, but they turned away from them.

واٮٮٮهم اٮٮٮا ڡكاٮوا عٮها معرصٮں

And they carved, in the mountains, houses, in complete security.

وكاٮوا ٮٮحٮوں مں الحٮال ٮٮوٮا امٮٮں

The Cry then seized them in the morning,

ڡاحدٮهم الصٮحه مصٮحٮں

and what they had earned availed them nothing.

ڡما اعٮى عٮهم ما كاٮوا ٮكسٮوں

so turn the page, with a gracious gesture.

ڡاصڡح الصڡح الحمٮل

Your Guardian is indeed the Great Creator, the All-Knowing.

اں رٮك هو الحلٯ العلٮم

We have indeed given you seven of the couplets, and the immense Recitation.

ولڡد اٮٮٮك سٮعا مں المٮاٮى والڡراں العطٮم

and lower your wing for the believers.

واحڡص حٮاحك للمومٮٮں

And say: "I am, indeed, the clear warner" — as We sent it down upon those who divided it among themselves, those who made of this Recitation disparate fragments.

وڡل اٮى اٮا الٮدٮر المٮٮں كما اٮرلٮا على المڡٮسمٮں الدٮں حعلوا الڡراں عصٮں

By your Guardian, We shall surely question them all about what they used to do.

ڡورٮك لٮسلٮهم احمعٮں عما كاٮوا ٮعملوں

and turn away from those who associate.

واعرص عں المسركٮں

they will soon know.

ڡسوڡ ٮعلموں

We will indeed know that your chest tightens from what they say:

ولڡد ٮعلم اٮك ٮصٮٯ صدرك ٮما ٮڡولوں

so glorify, with praise, your Guardian, and be among those who prostrate,

ڡسٮح ٮحمد رٮك وكں مں السحدٮں

and obey your Guardian until certainty comes to you.

واعٮد رٮك حٮى ٮاٮٮك الٮڡٮں
