Ash-Shu'ara

Ṭa. Sin. Mim.

طسٓمٓ

These are the signs of the explicit Scripture.

تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

Perhaps you will consume yourself because they are not believers.

لَعَلَّكَ بَٰخِعٌۭ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ

If We willed, We could send down upon them a sign from the sky before which their necks would stay bent.

إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ءَايَةًۭ فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَٰقُهُمْ لَهَا خَٰضِعِينَ

And no recent reminder comes to them from the All-Benevolent without their turning away from it.

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ

Yet they have denied; the information of what they used to mock will soon reach them.

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا۟ فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنۢبَٰٓؤُا۟ مَا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

Have they not seen the earth, how much We have made grow in it of every generous pair?

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۢ كَرِيمٍ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

Will they not guard themselves?"

أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ

He said: "My Guardian, I fear they will deny me; and my chest tightens, and my tongue does not loosen: so send to Harun. They hold an offense against me, and I fear they will kill me."

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِى وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِى فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَىٰ هَٰرُونَ وَلَهُمْ عَلَىَّ ذَنۢبٌۭ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ

Go then to Fir'awn and say: 'We are indeed the messengers of the Guardian of all beings; let the Sons of Israel go with us.'"

فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

He said: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child, and did you not remain among us for years of your life? You committed the act you committed, and you are among those who disown."

قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًۭا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ ٱلَّتِى فَعَلْتَ وَأَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

He said: "I did it then, while I was among the astray.

قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَآ إِذًۭا وَأَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

So I fled from you when I feared you; then my Guardian bestowed on me judgment and made me one of the envoys.

فَفَرَرْتُ مِنكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِى رَبِّى حُكْمًۭا وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

And this blessing with which you think you grace me is that you enslaved the Sons of Israel!"

وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٌۭ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَىَّ أَنْ عَبَّدتَّ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

Fir'awn said: "And what is the Guardian of all beings?"

قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

He said: "The Guardian of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you are of those who know with certainty."

قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ

He said to those around him: "Do you not listen?"

قَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُۥٓ أَلَا تَسْتَمِعُونَ

He said: "Your Guardian and the Guardian of your earliest forefathers."

قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

He said: "Your messenger who has been sent to you is surely deranged."

قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمَجْنُونٌۭ

He said: "The Guardian of the east and the west and what is between them, if you would reason."

قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

He said: "If you take a deity other than me, I will certainly put you among the imprisoned."

قَالَ لَئِنِ ٱتَّخَذْتَ إِلَٰهًا غَيْرِى لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمَسْجُونِينَ

He said: "Even if I brought you something explicit?"

قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَىْءٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ

He said: "Bring it then, if you are among the veracious."

قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِۦٓ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ

He then threw down his staff, and behold, it was a manifest serpent; and he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to those who looked.

فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ ثُعْبَانٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُۥ فَإِذَا هِىَ بَيْضَآءُ لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ

He said to the court around him: "This one is surely a knowing worker of illusion, who wants to drive you out of your land by his illusion. What then do you advise?"

قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُۥٓ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَٰحِرٌ عَلِيمٌۭ يُرِيدُ أَن يُخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِۦ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ

They said: "Put him off, him and his brother, and raise up gatherers into the capitals, who will bring you every great, knowing worker of illusion."

قَالُوٓا۟ أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَٱبْعَثْ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍۢ

The workers of illusion were brought together for the appointed time of a known day.

فَجُمِعَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَٰتِ يَوْمٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ

And it was said to the people: "Will you come together, in the hope that we may follow the workers of illusion, if they are the victors?"

وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّجْتَمِعُونَ لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ ٱلسَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَٰلِبِينَ

When the workers of illusion came, they said to Fir'awn: "Will there really be a reward for us, if we are the victors?"

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ قَالُوا۟ لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ ٱلْغَٰلِبِينَ

He said: "Yes, and you will then surely be among those brought near."

قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًۭا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

Moussa said to them: "Throw what you have to throw."

قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰٓ أَلْقُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُم مُّلْقُونَ

So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said: "By the might of Fir'awn, it is we, surely, who will be the victors!"

فَأَلْقَوْا۟ حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْغَٰلِبُونَ

Then Moussa threw his staff, and behold, it snapped up what they distorted.

فَأَلْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ

The workers of illusion were then cast down, prostrate.

فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَٰجِدِينَ

They said: "We believe in the Guardian of all beings, the Guardian of Moussa and Harun."

قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ

I will certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will certainly crucify you all together."

لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَٰفٍۢ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

It is to our Guardian that we turn.

إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ

We long for our Guardian to forgive us our faults, since we are the first of the believers."

إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَٰيَٰنَآ أَن كُنَّآ أَوَّلَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And We revealed to Moussa: "Set out by night with My obedient ones; you will be pursued."

وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِىٓ إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ

Fir'awn then sent gatherers into the capitals:

فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ

"These are surely a small band, and they surely enrage us, and we are surely, all together, a vigilant force."

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَشِرْذِمَةٌۭ قَلِيلُونَ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَآئِظُونَ وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَٰذِرُونَ

So We brought them out of gardens and springs, and treasures and a noble station.

فَأَخْرَجْنَٰهُم مِّن جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَعُيُونٍۢ وَكُنُوزٍۢ وَمَقَامٍۢ كَرِيمٍۢ

Thus.

كَذَٰلِكَ

And We made the Sons of Israel inherit them, and they pursued them at daybreak.

وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ

And when the two forces saw each other, the companions of Moussa said: "We are surely overtaken!"

فَلَمَّا تَرَٰٓءَا ٱلْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَٰبُ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ

My Guardian is indeed with me; He will guide me."

إِنَّ مَعِىَ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ

We then revealed to Moussa: "Strike the sea with your staff." It split, and each part was like a mighty peak.

فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْبَحْرَ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍۢ كَٱلطَّوْدِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

And We brought the others close there.

وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ

And We saved Moussa and all those with him, then We drowned the others.

وَأَنجَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

And recite to them the information concerning Ibrahim, when he said to his father and his people: "What do you obey?"

وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ

They said: "We obey idols, and we stay posted by them."

قَالُوا۟ نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًۭا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَٰكِفِينَ

He said: "Do they hear you when you call upon them, or do they benefit you, or do they harm you?"

قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ

They said: "No, but we found our ancestors acting thus."

قَالُوا۟ بَلْ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ

He said: "Have you then seen what you used to obey, you and your most distant forefathers? They are indeed enemies to me,

قَالَ أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ ٱلْأَقْدَمُونَ فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّۭ لِّىٓ

except the Guardian of all beings, the one who created me and who guides me,

إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَنِى فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ

and the one who feeds me and gives me drink, and who, when I am ill, heals me,

وَٱلَّذِى هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِى وَيَسْقِينِ وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ

and the one who will cause me to die then bring me back to life,

وَٱلَّذِى يُمِيتُنِى ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ

and the one from whom I long for forgiveness for my fault on the Day of the Due.

وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لِى خَطِيٓـَٔتِى يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ

My Guardian, bestow on me judgment and join me with those who are sound,

رَبِّ هَبْ لِى حُكْمًۭا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

and grant me a tongue of veracity among those who come after,

وَٱجْعَل لِّى لِسَانَ صِدْقٍۢ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ

and make me one of the heirs of the garden of bliss,

وَٱجْعَلْنِى مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

and forgive my father, for he was among the astray,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِأَبِىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

and do not disgrace me on the day they are raised, the day when neither goods nor sons will be of use, except to one who comes to God with an intact core."

وَلَا تُخْزِنِى يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌۭ وَلَا بَنُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى ٱللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍۢ سَلِيمٍۢ

And the Garden will be brought near to those who guard themselves,

وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

and the Blaze will be shown to the errant.

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ

do they help you, or do they help themselves?"

هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ

They will be flung into it, they, the errant, and the armies of Iblis, all together.

فَكُبْكِبُوا۟ فِيهَا هُمْ وَٱلْغَاوُۥنَ وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ

They will say, quarreling there: "By God, we were indeed in manifest error, when we set you on the same level as the Guardian of all beings.

قَالُوا۟ وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍ إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

And it was only the severed who led us astray.

وَمَآ أَضَلَّنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

So we have neither intercessors, nor a warm friend.

فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَٰفِعِينَ وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍۢ

If only we had a return, we would be among the believers!"

فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةًۭ فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

The people of Nuh denied the envoys, when their brother Nuh said to them: "Will you not guard yourselves? I am indeed for you a trustworthy messenger.

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌۭ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me."

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

They said: "Shall we give you credit while it is the lowliest who have followed you?"

قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَٱتَّبَعَكَ ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ

He said: "What do I know of what they used to do?

قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِى بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

Their account is due only to my Guardian, if only you could sense it.

إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّى لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ

And I am not one to chase away the believers; I am only an explicit warner."

وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنْ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ

They said: "If you do not stop, O Nuh, you will certainly be among the banished."

قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَرْجُومِينَ

He said: "My Guardian, my people have indeed denied me. Open then between me and them an opening, and save me and those of the believers who are with me."

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى كَذَّبُونِ فَٱفْتَحْ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحًۭا وَنَجِّنِى وَمَن مَّعِىَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

So We saved him and those with him, in the laden vessel.

فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ

Then We drowned afterward those who remained.

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

The Aad denied the envoys, when their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not guard yourselves? I am indeed for you a trustworthy messenger.

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌۭ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

Do you build on every hill a sign, in play, and take for yourselves factories in hope of abiding eternally, and when you grip, you grip as tyrants?

أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ ءَايَةًۭ تَعْبَثُونَ وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

And guard yourselves before the One who has provided you with what you know: He has provided you with cattle, sons, gardens and springs.

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَٰمٍۢ وَبَنِينَ وَجَنَّٰتٍۢ وَعُيُونٍ

I indeed fear for you the punishment of an immense day."

إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ

They said: "It is the same to us whether you exhort or are not among those who exhort; this is only the character of the ancients, and we shall not be punished."

قَالُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْنَآ أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْوَٰعِظِينَ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا خُلُقُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

The Thamud denied the envoys, when their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not guard yourselves? I am indeed for you a trustworthy messenger.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَٰلِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌۭ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

Will you be left secure here, amid gardens and springs, and crops and date-palms with melting spathes, while you carve houses out of the mountains, skilled and expert?

أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِى مَا هَٰهُنَآ ءَامِنِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَعُيُونٍۢ وَزُرُوعٍۢ وَنَخْلٍۢ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌۭ وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًۭا فَٰرِهِينَ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

And do not defer to the command of the excessive, who sow corruption on the earth and make nothing sound."

وَلَا تُطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ

They said: "You are only among those abused by illusion; you are only a human like us; bring then a sign, if you are among the veracious."

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ مَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ

and you have a turn to drink on a known day.

وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ

And touch her with no evil, or the punishment of an immense day will seize you."

وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءٍۢ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

The people of Lut denied the envoys, when their brother Lut said to them: "Will you not guard yourselves? I am indeed for you a trustworthy messenger.

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌۭ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

You are rather a people who cross the limits."

بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ

They said: "If you do not stop, O Lut, you will certainly be among those expelled."

قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُخْرَجِينَ

He said: "I am indeed among those who loathe your conduct.

قَالَ إِنِّى لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلْقَالِينَ

My Guardian, save me, and my family, from what they do."

رَبِّ نَجِّنِى وَأَهْلِى مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ

So We saved him and his household, all of them, except an old woman among those who lingered behind; then We destroyed the others.

فَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ إِلَّا عَجُوزًۭا فِى ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ

how evil was the rain of those who had been warned!

فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

The companions of the Thicket denied the envoys, when Shu'ayb said to them: "Will you not guard yourselves? I am indeed for you a trustworthy messenger.

كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌۭ

So guard yourselves toward God and defer to me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

and do not be among those who cause loss.

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُخْسِرِينَ

And weigh with the straight scale,

وَزِنُوا۟ بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ

and do not spread disorder on the earth as corrupters.

وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ

And guard yourselves before the One who created you, and the multitude of the earlier ones."

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمْ وَٱلْجِبِلَّةَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

They said: "You are only among those abused by illusion; you are only a human like us, and we certainly presume you to be among the liars. So make a fragment of the sky tumble upon us, if you are among the veracious."

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ وَمَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُنَا وَإِن نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ فَأَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًۭا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ

He said: "My Guardian knows best what you do."

قَالَ رَبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

It was the punishment of an immense day.

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

But most of them are not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And your Guardian is surely the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

And this is surely a descent from the Guardian of all beings.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَنزِيلُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

The trustworthy Influx came down with it, upon your core, so that you may be among the warners, in a flawless, explicit tongue.

نَزَلَ بِهِ ٱلرُّوحُ ٱلْأَمِينُ عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنذِرِينَ بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِىٍّۢ مُّبِينٍۢ

And this is surely found in the Formularies of the ancients.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِى زُبُرِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Is it not a sign for them, that the scholars of the Sons of Israel know it?

أَوَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ ءَايَةً أَن يَعْلَمَهُۥ عُلَمَٰٓؤُا۟ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

And if We had sent it down upon one of those whose tongue is not flawless, and he had read it to them, they would not have believed in it.

وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ بَعْضِ ٱلْأَعْجَمِينَ فَقَرَأَهُۥ عَلَيْهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنِينَ

Thus We have inserted it into the cores of the severed; they will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment, which will come to them unexpectedly, without their sensing it, and they will say then: "Will we be granted a delay?"

كَذَٰلِكَ سَلَكْنَٰهُ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ فَيَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةًۭ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ فَيَقُولُوا۟ هَلْ نَحْنُ مُنظَرُونَ

Is it then Our punishment that they seek to hasten?

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

Do you see? If We granted them enjoyment for years, then what they were promised came to them, of what use to them was the enjoyment they were granted?

أَفَرَءَيْتَ إِن مَّتَّعْنَٰهُمْ سِنِينَ ثُمَّ جَآءَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُمَتَّعُونَ

and We have never been wrongdoers.

وَمَا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

And it is not the Diverters who descended with it; that does not suit them, and they cannot do it.

وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينُ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

They are surely kept away from all listening.

إِنَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُونَ

So do not invoke, alongside God, another deity, or you would be among the punished.

فَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُعَذَّبِينَ

And warn your closest kinsmen, and lower your wing for those who follow you, among the believers.

وَأَنذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ ٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

If they disobey you, say then: "I am indeed quit of what you do."

فَإِنْ عَصَوْكَ فَقُلْ إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌۭ مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

And entrust yourself to the All-Powerful, the Benevolent, the One who sees you when you stand, and your comings and goings among those who prostrate.

وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱلَّذِى يَرَىٰكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِى ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ

It is indeed He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

Shall I inform you upon whom the Diverters descend? They descend upon every inveterate distorter, laden with transgressions. They lend an ear, and most of them are liars.

هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن تَنَزَّلُ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينُ تَنَزَّلُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍۢ يُلْقُونَ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ كَٰذِبُونَ

And the seductive orators, it is the errant who follow them.

وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ ٱلْغَاوُۥنَ

Have you not seen that they ramble in every valley, and that they say what they never do?

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِى كُلِّ وَادٍۢ يَهِيمُونَ وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ

and those who have done wrong will soon know to what turning point they will turn.

وَسَيَعْلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَىَّ مُنقَلَبٍۢ يَنقَلِبُونَ
