The preposition changes the relation

Confirmed principle 3 examples 1 min

One verb does not say the same thing depending on the preposition that follows it. A verb's construction is therefore checked across all its occurrences, and the translation changes its wording when the preposition changes.

The verb صلّى gives the clearest example. Followed by لـ, it names the act directed toward God: "So make contact for your Guardian" (108:2). Followed by على and a person, it names a bond with that person: "be in contact with them" (9:103). See “The Contact: making it, maintaining it, being in contact with”.

The verb ألقى ("to cast, to lay") follows the same principle. With إلى, it names what one extends toward someone: "offering them affection" (60:1). With على, what one lays upon him: "I cast upon you a love from Me" (20:39).

The reading rules give other cases, each checked across all its occurrences: “Guiding "along" the path or guiding "to" it”; “Believing "in" and giving credit "to"”; “Sending "upon": what comes down, and the guardians”; “The preposition before "their Contact" tells the relationship”.
