The Romans
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Alif. Lam. Mim.
ٮسم الله الرحمں الرحٮم الم
The Romans were victorious, in the nearest land; but after their victory, they will be defeated, within a few years.
علٮٮ الروم ڡى ادٮى الارص وهم مں ٮعد علٮهم سٮعلٮوں ڡى ٮصع سٮٮں
To God belongs the command, before and after.
لله الامر مں ڡٮل ومں ٮعد
And on that day the believers will rejoice in God's help —
وٮومٮد ٮڡرح المومٮوں ٮٮصر الله
He helps whom He wills;
ٮٮصر مں ٮسا
and He is the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.
وهو العرٮر الرحٮم
God's promise: God does not fail His promise,
وعد الله لا ٮحلڡ الله وعده
but most men do not know.
ولكں اكٮر الٮاس لا ٮعلموں
They know only an outward aspect of the present life, while of the last life they are heedless.
ٮعلموں طهرا مں الحٮوه الدٮٮا وهم عں الاحره هم عڡلوں
Have they not reflected within themselves?
اولم ٮٮڡكروا ڡى اٮڡسهم
God did not create the heavens and the earth, and what is between them, except in truth and for an appointed term;
ما حلٯ الله السموٮ والارص وما ٮٮٮهما الا ٮالحٯ واحل مسمى
and surely many men disown the meeting with their Guardian.
واں كٮٮرا مں الٮاس ٮلڡاى رٮهم لكڡروں
Have they not traveled through the earth and looked at what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they stirred up the earth
اولم ٮسٮروا ڡى الارص ڡٮٮطروا كٮڡ كاں عڡٮه الدٮں مں ڡٮلهم كاٮوا اسد مٮهم ڡوه واٮاروا الارص
and populated it more than they have populated it; and their messengers came to them with clear proofs,
وعمروها اكٮر مما عمروها وحاٮهم رسلهم ٮالٮٮٮٮ
and God was not going to wrong them,
ڡما كاں الله لٮطلمهم
but it was themselves that they wronged.
ولكں كاٮوا اٮڡسهم ٮطلموں
Then the end of those who did evil was the worst, for they denied the signs of God and used to mock them.
ٮم كاں عڡٮه الدٮں اسوا السواى اں كدٮوا ٮاٮٮ الله وكاٮوا ٮها ٮسٮهروں
God begins creation, then remakes it, then to Him they will be returned.
الله ٮٮدوا الحلٯ ٮم ٮعٮده ٮم الٮه ٮرحعوں
And on the day the Hour rises, the severed will be plunged into despair, and they will have, among their associates, no intercessors; and even their own associates, they will disown.
وٮوم ٮڡوم الساعه ٮٮلس المحرموں ولم ٮكں لهم مں سركاٮهم سڡعوا وكاٮوا ٮسركاٮهم كڡرٮں
And on the day the Hour rises, that day they will be separated:
وٮوم ٮڡوم الساعه ٮومٮد ٮٮڡرڡوں
as for those who believed and did sound deeds, they will be overjoyed in a flowering meadow;
ڡاما الدٮں امٮوا وعملوا الصلحٮ ڡهم ڡى روصه ٮحٮروں
and as for those who disowned and denied Our signs and the meeting of the last life, those will be brought into the punishment.
واما الدٮں كڡروا وكدٮوا ٮاٮٮٮا ولڡاى الاحره ڡاولٮك ڡى العداٮ محصروں
So glory be to God when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning!
ڡسٮحں الله حٮں ٮمسوں وحٮں ٮصٮحوں
And to Him is praise in the heavens and the earth, and at the day's decline, and when you enter midday.
وله الحمد ڡى السموٮ والارص وعسٮا وحٮں ٮطهروں
He brings the living out of the dead, and brings the dead out of the living, and brings the earth back to life after its death;
ٮحرح الحى مں المٮٮ وٮحرح المٮٮ مں الحى وٮحى الارص ٮعد موٮها
and thus will you be brought forth.
وكدلك ٮحرحوں
And among His signs is that He created you from earth; then, behold, you are humans deploying.
ومں اٮٮه اں حلڡكم مں ٮراٮ ٮم ادا اٮٮم ٮسر ٮٮٮسروں
And among His signs is that He created for you, from yourselves, spouses, so that you might find rest in them, and He placed between you affection and benevolence;
ومں اٮٮه اں حلٯ لكم مں اٮڡسكم اروحا لٮسكٮوا الٮها وحعل ٮٮٮكم موده ورحمه
there are surely in that signs for a people who reflect.
اں ڡى دلك لاٮٮ لڡوم ٮٮڡكروں
And among His signs are the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variety of your tongues and your colors;
ومں اٮٮه حلٯ السموٮ والارص واحٮلڡ السٮٮكم والوٮكم
there are surely in that signs for those who know.
اں ڡى دلك لاٮٮ للعلمٮں
And among His signs are your sleep by night and by day, and your seeking of His favor;
ومں اٮٮه مٮامكم ٮالٮل والٮهار واٮٮعاوكم مں ڡصله
there are surely in that signs for a people who hear.
اں ڡى دلك لاٮٮ لڡوم ٮسمعوں
And among His signs is that He shows you the lightning, feared and hoped for, and sends down water from the sky by which He brings the earth back to life after its death;
ومں اٮٮه ٮرٮكم الٮرٯ حوڡا وطمعا وٮٮرل مں السما ما ڡٮحى ٮه الارص ٮعد موٮها
there are surely in that signs for a people who reason.
اں ڡى دلك لاٮٮ لڡوم ٮعڡلوں
And among His signs is that the sky and the earth stand by His command;
ومں اٮٮه اں ٮڡوم السما والارص ٮامره
then, when He calls you with a single call from the earth, behold, you will come forth.
ٮم ادا دعاكم دعوه مں الارص ادا اٮٮم ٮحرحوں
And to Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth;
وله مں ڡى السموٮ والارص
all are devoted to Him.
كل له ڡٮٮوں
And it is He who begins creation, then remakes it — a matter yet easier for Him;
وهو الدى ٮٮدوا الحلٯ ٮم ٮعٮده وهو اهوں علٮه
and to Him belongs the most exalted example, in the heavens and the earth;
وله المٮل الاعلى ڡى السموٮ والارص
and He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو العرٮر الحكٮم
He has multiplied for you an example drawn from yourselves: do you have, among those bound to you by oath, any partners in what We have provided you, such that you would be equal in that, fearing them as you fear one another?
صرٮ لكم مٮلا مں اٮڡسكم هل لكم مں ما ملكٮ اٮمٮكم مں سركا ڡى ما ررڡٮكم ڡاٮٮم ڡٮه سوا ٮحاڡوٮهم كحٮڡٮكم اٮڡسكم
Thus do We detail the signs for a people who reason.
كدلك ٮڡصل الاٮٮ لڡوم ٮعڡلوں
Those who did wrong rather followed their emotions, without knowledge.
ٮل اٮٮع الدٮں طلموا اهواهم ٮعٮر علم
So who will guide the one God has led astray?
ڡمں ٮهدى مں اصل الله
And they will have no help.
وما لهم مں ٮصرٮں
Maintain your direction toward the Law, wholly turned toward God — the original nature God gave mankind, as He originated them. There is no changing God's creation: that is the upright Law, but most men do not know — ever having recourse to Him, guard yourselves toward Him, maintain the Contact, and do not be among those who associate, among those who divided their Law and became factions,
ڡاڡم وحهك للدٮں حٮٮڡا ڡطرٮ الله الٮى ڡطر الٮاس علٮها لا ٮٮدٮل لحلٯ الله دلك الدٮں الڡٮم ولكں اكٮر الٮاس لا ٮعلموں مٮٮٮٮں الٮه واٮڡوه واڡٮموا الصلوه ولا ٮكوٮوا مں المسركٮں مں الدٮں ڡرڡوا دٮٮهم وكاٮوا سٮعا
each party rejoicing in what it holds.
كل حرٮ ٮما لدٮهم ڡرحوں
And when harm touches men, they call upon their Guardian, having recourse to Him;
وادا مس الٮاس صر دعوا رٮهم مٮٮٮٮں الٮه
then when He lets them taste a benevolence from Him, behold, a fraction among them associates with their Guardian,
ٮم ادا اداڡهم مٮه رحمه ادا ڡرٮٯ مٮهم ٮرٮهم ٮسركوں
so as to disown what We have given them.
لٮكڡروا ٮما اٮٮٮهم
Enjoy yourselves, then: soon you will know.
ڡٮمٮعوا ڡسوڡ ٮعلموں
Or have We sent down upon them an authority which speaks in favor of what they associate with Him?
ام اٮرلٮا علٮهم سلطٮا ڡهو ٮٮكلم ٮما كاٮوا ٮه ٮسركوں
And when We let men taste a benevolence, they rejoice in it;
وادا ادڡٮا الٮاس رحمه ڡرحوا ٮها
but if evil strikes them for what their hands have prepared, behold, they lose heart.
واں ٮصٮهم سٮٮه ٮما ڡدمٮ اٮدٮهم ادا هم ٮڡٮطوں
Have they not seen that God extends provision to whom He wills, and measures it?
اولم ٮروا اں الله ٮٮسط الررٯ لمں ٮسا وٮڡدر
There are surely in that signs for a people who believe.
اں ڡى دلك لاٮٮ لڡوم ٮومٮوں
So give to the close relative his due, and to the destitute and the stranded traveler;
ڡاٮ دا الڡرٮى حڡه والمسكٮں واٮں السٮٮل
that is better for those who want the direction of God,
دلك حٮر للدٮں ٮرٮدوں وحه الله
and those are the ones who succeed.
واولٮك هم المڡلحوں
And whatever you give as a loan that swells, that it may swell through the goods of men, does not swell with God;
وما اٮٮٮم مں رٮا لٮرٮوا ڡى امول الٮاس ڡلا ٮرٮوا عٮد الله
but whatever you give in pure liberality, wanting the direction of God — it is they who double.
وما اٮٮٮم مں ركوه ٮرٮدوں وحه الله ڡاولٮك هم المصعڡوں
God is He who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, then will bring you back to life.
الله الدى حلڡكم ٮم ررڡكم ٮم ٮمٮٮكم ٮم ٮحٮٮكم
Is there among your associates one who does any of that?
هل مں سركاٮكم مں ٮڡعل مں دلكم مں سى
Glory be to Him, and He is far above what you associate with Him.
سٮحٮه وٮعلى عما ٮسركوں
Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned, so that He may let them taste some of what they have done, perhaps they will return.
طهر الڡساد ڡى الٮر والٮحر ٮما كسٮٮ اٮدى الٮاس لٮدٮڡهم ٮعص الدى عملوا لعلهم ٮرحعوں
Say, "Travel through the earth and look at what was the end of those who came before."
ڡل سٮروا ڡى الارص ڡاٮطروا كٮڡ كاں عڡٮه الدٮں مں ڡٮل
Most of them were associators.
كاں اكٮرهم مسركٮں
So maintain your direction toward the upright Law, before there comes, from God, a day that cannot be turned back:
ڡاڡم وحهك للدٮں الڡٮم مں ڡٮل اں ٮاٮى ٮوم لا مرد له مں الله
that day, they will be split apart.
ٮومٮد ٮصدعوں
Whoever disowns, his disowning falls back upon him;
مں كڡر ڡعلٮه كڡره
and whoever does a sound deed — those lay out a bed for themselves — so that He may recompense, out of His favor, those who believed and did sound deeds.
ومں عمل صلحا ڡلاٮڡسهم ٮمهدوں لٮحرى الدٮں امٮوا وعملوا الصلحٮ مں ڡصله
He does not love those who disown.
اٮه لا ٮحٮ الكڡرٮں
And among His signs is that He sends the winds as bearers of good tidings, so as to let you taste of His benevolence, and so that the vessels may sail by His command, and so that you may seek His favor, and perhaps you will be grateful.
ومں اٮٮه اں ٮرسل الرٮاح مٮسرٮ ولٮدٮڡكم مں رحمٮه ولٮحرى الڡلك ٮامره ولٮٮٮعوا مں ڡصله ولعلكم ٮسكروں
And We certainly sent, before you, messengers to their people; they came to them with clear proofs, and We took vengeance upon those who cut themselves off;
ولڡد ارسلٮا مں ڡٮلك رسلا الى ڡومهم ڡحاوهم ٮالٮٮٮٮ ڡاٮٮڡمٮا مں الدٮں احرموا
and it was a duty upon Us to help the believers.
وكاں حڡا علٮٮا ٮصر المومٮٮں
God is He who sends the winds; they stir up clouds, which He spreads in the sky as He wills, and breaks into fragments; then you see the shower come forth from their midst.
الله الدى ٮرسل الرٮح ڡٮٮٮر سحاٮا ڡٮٮسطه ڡى السما كٮڡ ٮسا وٮحعله كسڡا ڡٮرى الودٯ ٮحرح مں حلله
Then when He makes it betide whom He wills of His obedient ones, behold, they exult,
ڡادا اصاٮ ٮه مں ٮسا مں عٮاده ادا هم ٮسٮٮسروں
even though before that, before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.
واں كاٮوا مں ڡٮل اں ٮٮرل علٮهم مں ڡٮله لمٮلسٮں
So look at the trace of God's benevolence: how He brings the earth back to life after its death;
ڡاٮطر الى اٮر رحمٮ الله كٮڡ ٮحى الارص ٮعد موٮها
that is He who will surely bring the dead back to life,
اں دلك لمحى الموٮى
and He is capable of all things.
وهو على كل سى ڡدٮر
And if We sent a wind, and they saw it turn yellow, they would stay on, after that, disowning.
ولٮں ارسلٮا رٮحا ڡراوه مصڡرا لطلوا مں ٮعده ٮكڡروں
So you do not make the dead hear, nor do you make the deaf hear the call, when they turn their backs in retreat.
ڡاٮك لا ٮسمع الموٮى ولا ٮسمع الصم الدعا ادا ولوا مدٮرٮں
And you are not the one who guides the blind out of their error;
وما اٮٮ ٮهد العمى عں صللٮهم
you make hear only him who believes in Our signs, and those are true to God alone.
اں ٮسمع الا مں ٮومں ٮاٮٮٮا ڡهم مسلموں
God is He who created you from weakness, then made, after weakness, strength, then made, after strength, weakness and white hair;
الله الدى حلڡكم مں صعڡ ٮم حعل مں ٮعد صعڡ ڡوه ٮم حعل مں ٮعد ڡوه صعڡا وسٮٮه
He creates what He wills,
ٮحلٯ ما ٮسا
and He is the All-Knowing, the Capable.
وهو العلٮم الڡدٮر
And on the day the Hour rises, the severed will swear they remained but an hour;
وٮوم ٮڡوم الساعه ٮڡسم المحرموں ما لٮٮوا عٮر ساعه
thus were they turned away.
كدلك كاٮوا ٮوڡكوں
And those who were given knowledge and faith will say, "You have certainly remained, under God's Code, until the Day of Raising;
وڡال الدٮں اوٮوا العلم والاٮمں لڡد لٮٮٮم ڡى كٮٮ الله الى ٮوم الٮعٮ
so this is the Day of Raising — but you did not know."
ڡهدا ٮوم الٮعٮ ولكٮكم كٮٮم لا ٮعلموں
That day, the excuse of the wrongdoers will not benefit them, nor will they be asked to make amends.
ڡٮومٮد لا ٮٮڡع الدٮں طلموا معدرٮهم ولا هم ٮسٮعٮٮوں
And We have certainly multiplied for men, in this Recitation, every kind of example;
ولڡد صرٮٮا للٮاس ڡى هدا الڡراں مں كل مٮل
and if you bring them a sign, those who disown will certainly say, "You are nothing but workers of falsehood."
ولٮں حٮٮهم ٮاٮه لٮڡولں الدٮں كڡروا اں اٮٮم الا مٮطلوں
Thus does God stamp the cores of those who do not know.
كدلك ٮطٮع الله على ڡلوٮ الدٮں لا ٮعلموں
So be patient:
ڡاصٮر
God's promise is indeed truth;
اں وعد الله حٯ
and do not let those who lack certainty make you light.
ولا ٮسٮحڡٮك الدٮں لا ٮوڡٮوں
